THE STORY BEHIND VOX POP & VEIL

I spend my career asking people for their stories. This is mine...

HI! I'M SARAH...

I’ve spent more than a decade working as a journalist, presenter and producer, including many years with the BBC across radio, news and audio.

I’ve worked in live broadcast studios, breaking-news environments, long-form interviews and on stages in front of hundreds of people. Along the way, I’ve interviewed politicians, celebrities, founders, global business leaders and plenty of brilliant people you’ve never heard of with stories just as worth telling.

But despite all the different places my career has taken me, the bit I’ve always loved most is simply talking to people.

A good interview isn’t really about having an impressive list of questions. It’s about making someone feel comfortable enough to forget they’re being interviewed. Listening properly. Spotting the detail worth coming back to. Knowing when to leave a silence and when to ask one more question.

Every so often, you get an answer that begins:

"Oh… I’ve never actually told them this." or "I never thought about that!"

Those are the moments I love.

Then I started planning my own wedding.

Like most people, I suddenly found myself thinking about photographs, films, guestbooks and all the different ways we’d remember one enormous day.

And somewhere in the middle of it all, I had a thought: what about the people?

I didn’t just want footage of them laughing on the dance floor or waving at a camera. I wanted their voices. Their stories. The ridiculous memories. The things they remembered about us that we’d forgotten. The things our parents, grandparents and oldest friends might never think to sit us down and say.

And I realised that the thing I’d spent my career learning how to do could have a rather lovely place at a wedding.

That was the beginning of Vox Pop & Veil - a new kind of wedding journalism.

After years working in some fairly high-pressure and serious environments, there’s something incredibly special about taking those same skills into a room where everyone has gathered for the happiest of reasons.

I still get to do what I love: meet people, put them at ease, ask questions, listen and find the story.

Only now, the stories are about you.

While your photographer captures how everything looked and your videographer captures the day as it unfolded, I focus on something different: what the people you love have to say.

Those conversations become your Video Guestbook - an archive of the voices, stories and personalities that made your wedding yours.

Vox Pop & Veil is only just beginning, which makes writing this slightly surreal. But I genuinely couldn’t be more excited to take everything I’ve learnt over the last decade and turn it into something people might keep for the rest of their lives.

Wedding journalism, the Vox Pop & Veil way!

Because the people in the room are part of your story too.
