FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
It’s a new way of capturing a wedding, so naturally, there might be a few questions.
From what we actually ask your guests to what you’ll take home at the end of it all, here’s everything we’d want to know too!..
“Vox pop” comes from vox populi - “the voice of the people”.In journalism, it means speaking to real people and capturing their thoughts, reactions and stories in their own words. You'll probably recognise the format from TV news!At Vox Pop & Veil, we take that familiar reporter-and-microphone format and give it a wedding twist - spending proper time with the people who know you best and asking the questions that uncover the good stuff.
Because interviewing is a profession. There's a reason the best interviews aren't simply somebody reading questions from a list. The question matters, but the listening matters more.Years of journalism teach you how to read a person, put them at ease, spot a story, change direction, ask the follow-up nobody planned and know when to stay quiet for another five seconds. That experience changes what comes back.An audio guest book records what someone already intended to say.A content creator captures the moment.A videographer records the day.A journalist finds the story. That's what you're booking.
I conduct the interviews. You choose how you want those conversations preserved. There isn’t one fixed way to keep your interviews, that’s part of the beauty of it.Depending on the experience you choose, your wedding stories can be preserved in a few different ways:The Digital Video Guestbook - your guests’ interviews kept individually, so you can return to a particular person, story or voice whenever you want. The Highlights Film - a beautifully edited compilation bringing together the funniest, warmest and most memorable moments from across the day.The Full Interview Archive - the longer individual conversations, organised for you to dip into naturally rather than losing everything that didn’t make the main edit. The Physical Guestbook - a printed keepsake filled with photographs, quotes and snippets from the interviews, with discreet QR codes linking you back to the voices behind each page. The Couple Interview - an optional 30-minute recorded conversation before or after the wedding, giving the two of you space to tell your own version of the story. Keep it privately, or share it with friends and family like your own wedding podcast. And on the wedding day itself, I’ll always steal the two of you for a few minutes. Not for another posed interview, just a little “we’re actually married” check-in while everything is happening around you.One of the things couples so often say afterwards is that the day went unbelievably quickly and they barely had a moment alone together. I want to capture five minutes of you in the middle of it: how it feels, what’s surprised you, what’s made you laugh, what you’ve noticed about each other. A tiny time capsule from the day itself, before you’re swept back into the party! If you have a particular idea for how you'd like your interviews, and it isn't mentioned above, I'm always happy to discuss ways we can work together to make sure it's perfect for you!Explore the details on our service page.
Some may be able to, sure! But your videographer already has a huge job: capturing the ceremony, speeches, reactions, details, movement and all the moments happening across the day. Sitting down with guests for thoughtful, properly conducted interviews takes time and focus they often simply don’t have. That’s where Vox Pop & Veil comes in.Interviewing is our entire job. We can spend time putting your guests at ease, listening properly, following the interesting answer and asking the question that wasn’t on the list.Anyone can ask, “How do you know the couple?”A journalist knows when to ask, “What changed in her when she met him?” and when to follow that with, “Tell me more about that.”We’re not replacing your videographer. We’re adding another layer to what they capture - a little extra magic focused entirely on the people, stories and voices around you!
Then they don’t have to be! Nobody will ever be pressured to take part.A big part of professional interviewing is making people comfortable, and many camera-shy guests relax remarkably quickly once they realise it’s simply a conversation. But if someone would rather stay safely off the record, that’s completely fine too.
It could end up that way, but that's not the goal. The goal is authenticity. Some conversations may unexpectedly become very moving.Others may involve allegations about university behaviour that cannot be independently verified.A Vox Pop & Veil film should sound like your actual people:Warm.Funny.Dry.Affectionate.Thoughtful.Ridiculous.Occasionally 'unbroadcastable'!
Of course, you’re very welcome to tell me about the people you’d especially love to hear from, and I’ll keep an eye out for them on the day.But I’m also a big believer in not turning your wedding into a list of appointments.I don’t want to spend precious time hunting down your best friend while they’re having a brilliant conversation, pulling your dad away from the dance floor, or making anyone feel they have another wedding-day obligation to tick off.The best interviews often happen organically: I spot someone with a few minutes to spare, introduce myself, and we have a conversation while they’re relaxed and happy to take part.So usually, a bit of both works beautifully. Give me the names of a few people who really matter, then trust me to follow the room and the stories on the day.And if there’s somebody whose interview you absolutely don’t want to miss, we can always arrange a longer conversation with them before or after the wedding instead.
We work around the natural rhythm of your day.The exact timing will depend on your wedding, venue and schedule, but interviews are usually captured during the more relaxed parts of the celebration rather than during moments your guests should be experiencing with you. We’ll coordinate with your photographer, videographer and venue beforehand so everyone can work comfortably alongside one another.
Yes, and in two different ways.On the wedding day itself, I’ll always try to steal the two of you for a few minutes. One of the things couples so often say afterwards is that the day flew by and they barely had a moment to actually be together, take it all in, or talk about how it was feeling while it was happening. So this isn’t another big formal interview. It’s a quick just-married check-in - five minutes to pause, look at each other and capture the things you might otherwise forget: what’s surprised you, what’s made you laugh, how the day feels so far, and the fact that you’ve actually just got married. For couples who want to go deeper, there’s also The Interview - a professionally hosted conversation recorded before or after the wedding. It’s your chance to tell your version of the story properly: how it began, what changed, what you’ve learnt about each other and what you hope lies ahead. It can be kept privately as part of your Video Guestbook or shared with friends and family before the wedding or afterwards - a little like your own wedding podcast.Together, the two give you something quite special: how your relationship feels in the bigger picture, and how it felt right there in the middle of the day.
Not at all!Vox Pop & Veil is where it all began, but Vox Pop & Party is where we can take things beyond the big day! The idea works anywhere people worth remembering are gathered in one room.Milestone birthdays, anniversaries, family celebrations, parties, corporate events - if there are good people and good stories, we can bring the microphone. The format may change slightly depending on the occasion, but the ethos stays the same: proper questions, real conversations, and voices worth keeping. If you’ve got something in mind, get in touch - we’d love to hear about it!
